Preparing for Success in Dual Language
We encourage families to:
- develop their child’s perseverance and willingness to take risks speaking the new language
- help them understand that they need to fully focus their attention to the classroom to learn the new language
- be willing to listen to how their child is feeling about learning at school
- help their child through unpleasant feelings and develop positive strategies to acquire a new language
- learn the new language together
- talk positively about being bilingual
- understand it can take 2-4 years for student to feel comfortable talking socially in the new language; 5-7 academically
- engage in 20 hours of supporting the school and your child (family events)
